Yes they can. It may be a prescription from a doctor they have had issues with in the past. It could also be something that is too soon or something that is not available. The customer may have been abusive to staff at some point.

Walmart pharmacy will hold a ready prescription for nine days. Meaning that it is ready to be picked up. However, after those nine days are up we put it on hold on the patient's profile where you can request it be filled again as long as the script itself is still valid.

The patient can also request for their prescription to be returned so they can try to get their prescription filled at a different pharmacy. Patients have other options, such as filing complaints if they feel wronged by the pharmacist.
